Pico 2 is the board to reach for when a full computer is too much: a sensor that reports to your cluster, a status light for a build pipeline, a USB macro pad, a motor controller. It runs on the RP2350 chip with two Arm Cortex-M33 cores at 150 MHz (the chip can also run RISC-V cores) and has 520 KB of SRAM and 4 MB of flash on the board.
Hold the button while plugging in the cable and the board appears as a USB drive: drag a file onto it and your program runs. Programs are written in MicroPython, C/C++ or Rust, with great documentation and thousands of examples.
Twelve PIO state machines let you create hardware interfaces in software: extra UARTs, LED strip drivers, VGA, custom protocols. Twenty-six GPIO pins, three 12-bit ADC inputs and the usual I2C, SPI and UART buses cover almost any project.
